Garage Contractors and Food Safety Don't Mix!
A Wisconsin cheese producer called us years after their brine tanks were "fiberglassed" by another contractor. The problem: the fiberglass was still soft and had never properly cured—a serious food safety issue they didn't realize was abnormal.
The previous contractor worked out of their garage, wasn't a full-time fiberglass provider, and didn't employ trained technicians. The material was improperly mixed, never adhered correctly to the concrete tanks, and we couldn't even verify if it was FDA-approved product. This created major audit liability for a highly regulated dairy facility.
In food processing, "cheaper" often means non-compliant. Proper fiberglass installation requires FDA-approved materials, correct mixing ratios, proper surface preparation, and experienced technicians who understand food safety requirements. Part-time contractors working from garages can't deliver these standards—but facilities don't discover this until audits reveal problems or, worse, contamination events occur.
The photo shows material that never cured versus properly installed fiberglass on the left side of the first picture. When regulatory compliance and food safety are on the line, contractor selection isn't about lowest price—it's about expertise that protects your facility and your customers.
